Avipattikar Choornam

A classical form with a place in daily routine

In the Ayurvedic tradition, a Choornam is valued for its simplicity: whole herbs reduced to powder so that their character is carried gently into a daily routine, or Dinacharya (the classical ordering of the day). Such powders are typically composed of herbs of warming, aromatic and mildly bitter Rasa (taste), and have long been kept in the household as part of a seasonal daily routine. Within Ayurvedic thinking this form is associated with the balancing of the three Doshas according to constitution.

How to use

Traditionally a small measure of the powder is taken with a little warm water, according to the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. Begin modestly and let it become a quiet, habitual part of your morning or evening ritual. Store in a cool, dry place with the lid closed to preserve the aroma.
