Among the classical preparations of the Ayurvedic tradition, Ghritham (herbal ghee) holds a place of quiet distinction. Thikthakam Ghritham follows a recipe drawn from the bitter register of the classical texts, prepared by Sitaram Ayurveda to traditional methods refined in Kerala since 1921.
Thikthakam Ghritham
The classical form
A Ghritham is a ghee-based preparation in which clarified butter is slowly cooked with a decoction of herbs until the botanical character is fully carried into the medium. The name Thikthakam points to the Thiktha Rasa (bitter taste), one of the six classical tastes long valued in Ayurveda for its cooling, clarifying quality. The result is a smooth, golden semi-solid with the characteristic aroma of a slow-cooked herbal ghee.
Traditional place in a daily routine
In the rhythm of Dinacharya (the classical daily routine), preparations of the bitter register are taken in small, measured amounts, often in the earlier part of the day. Thikthakam Ghritham is used in the manner passed down through classical practice, in modest quantity and as part of a careful routine.
How to use
Take a small measured amount as part of your daily routine, or as directed by a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. Because it is a ghee-based preparation, it softens gently when warmed. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
Prepared by Sitaram Ayurveda in Kerala, an Ayurvedic manufacturer established in 1921 since 1921, under GMP quality standards.
