The name Sukumaram carries the sense of sukumara, meaning gentle or tender. It sets the tone for a preparation the classical tradition places among its milder formulas, one suited to those who prefer a soft, steady rhythm in their daily care.
More than twenty botanicals in one tablet
Sukumaram Kashayam (a traditional water decoction of herbs) brings together over twenty carefully chosen plants, among them Punarnava, Vilwa, Kashmarya, Patala, Shatavari, Eranda and Darbha. In tablet form the decoction is concentrated, dried and compressed, keeping the recipe consistent while making regular use simple.
The classical perspective
Gentle daily rhythm is a long-standing theme in Kerala Ayurveda. Within the classical framework, Vata (the Dosha, or functional principle, of movement) has a downward-moving aspect known as Apana Vata, which the texts associate with the natural, settled flow of the lower body. Sukumaram is spoken of in relation to Apana Vata and to a calm, unforced routine, always as tradition rather than as treatment of any concern.
A mindful daily rhythm
- Take the tablets with warm water before meals, following the label.
- Favour light, wholesome foods such as soups, stews and well-cooked grains.
- Pair the routine with quiet breathwork or a warm herbal infusion for a considered moment of self-care.
Sukumaram Kashayam Tablets are a food supplement and are not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the intake stated on the label, and use under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, who can account for age and individual constitution.
Questions we are often asked
What makes this formula distinctive?
Its breadth. Bringing more than twenty botanicals into a single gentle preparation reflects the sukumara, or tender, character the classical texts describe.
How should it sit within a day?
Before meals, with warm water, at steady times. It is intended to accompany a simple, nourishing routine rather than to stand alone.
Where does it come from?
Sitaram Ayurveda has prepared classical formulations in Kerala since 1921, to GMP, ISO and FSSAI standards. Sitaram Ayurveda Europe makes them available across the region.
